  4. I just bought this, and it's satisfactory in many ways. I am using it to scan documents, and there seems to be one flaw. You can click "Advanced Document Settings" and choose your preferred ppi value -- but then it ignores this setting and uses 300 ppi every time. Am I missing something here?

  5. The best alternative in that case is to create a scan profile for your scanning, so you don't miss your settings. Also check Creating a Scan Profile In HP Solution Center Software not sure whether it applies to the new g3110 scanner.

  6. I tried this. It lets me save a new "shortcut" with the settings. When I open the shortcut for edit, it says "200" in the ppi box, just as I set it. But if I hover the mouse over the shortcut it says "300 ppi" and when I actually run the shortcut it scans at 300 ppi.

  7. The software I am using came on a CD with my G3110. It is "HP Solution Center"; from that I choose "Scan Document".

The bug appears to be in the software. As I mentioned, if I actually click on a shortcut and choose "Change Settings" and then "Advanced Document Settings", I see the 200 in the ppi box. But everywhere else it's 300.

  8. In my effort to save electricity by powering off a powerstrip that was connected to my old HP 3570 scanner, I killed the scanner within two days. Perhaps it wasn't meant to be powered on/off in that manner.

I've been scanning/archiving family photos for several years and am behind schedule for a Christmas project. So, I was in a bind. I rushed to the nearest Office Depot and after checking the technical specs for various flatbed models in the store, I chose the HP G3110. The $99.99 pricetag was very reasonable and it's Energy Star compliant.

I set up the scanner on my PC (WinXP Home Edition), no sweat. Then I ran a test. I compared results using photos previously scanned on my old 3570 model. The G3110's results surpassed the 3570's scans by leaps and bounds. I'm tempted to go back and re-scan my entire collection of family photos!

The only problem I encountered is the HP Director program that came with the HP3570 went kaput on me after I installed the G3110 software. To resolve this, I located the HP Photo and Imaging Gallery executable file and created a shortcut to it. It runs just fine and I'm able to use the Scan feature from the Gallery and continue working on my project. Scanning is a slow process, yes, but this model is faster than my old 3570.

Long story short? I'm pleased with this scanner and wish my old scanner had died sooner.

  10. Comparing to the G4010 I really only see one difference, in that the G4010 is 96Bit and the G3110 is 48Bit. I want a scanner for doing my slides, negatives and some photos. Am I going to see any difference in the output and is the software the same with both? Which is newer technology?

    Thanks,

  13. will this work to scan medium format 120/220 negatives and slides?

  14. when scanning multi page documents to PDF you can't save your crop settings and brightness settings - you can't even limit the field to be scanned????? Every time it scans the full field and then one has to crop by hand...wasting a lot of time. Am I missing something!!! Is there a better driver for the G3110 out there.

  15. I am having the same issue. Under the older HP Director, I could set my dimensions (crop settings) for each size of document I scan regularly and save a separate profile for each, meaning I don't have to adjust the scan area size each time I scan a document. I have not been able to locate where this same functionality is located in the new HP Solution Center. New versions of software should not have less functionality. Does anyone know how this may be accomplished?

  16. I really feel HP has missed the boat by not allowing setting to be saved and causing way too much time per scan. I might even take my scanner back since it does not live up to the "easy" claim as far as I see it.

  17. I have exactly the same problem. Scan documents and then have to manually crop. Is there any way to set a different page size for, like, 200 pages?

Thanks to anyone who can help!

  18. I'm using the Scanjet G3110 with my MacBook. Usually it works fine. Often while everything is powered up, it will not scan. It's "on", but just sits there and will not function. What's up with that ???? It takes a lot of time fussing with it, and it will eventually work, but there's nothing that I can determine that I'm doing wrong.

  20. I like the HP Scanjet G3110 Scanner! My cousin owns one and showed it to me. Besides, I am also using 3D laser scanning services in our place for my laser scanning technology needs. Since I am an artist, it is easy for me to prepare and design my projects because of 3d laser scanning technology.

  21. Does this not work with Windows 7?

  22. Yes..I am using it from last 1 year. It has lot of features as well as benefits. It easily eliminate red-eye from images . It easily scan up to four film slides (35mm) or five negatives via a built-in transparent materials adapter
