Guide To Extract Jelly Bean FTF Files for Xperia

I required to extract Sony Xperia M  (C1904, C1905) FTF files to get the stock wallpapers and ringtone files, I decided to extract the FTF using the procedure listed here (which is for ICS), as Xperia M comes with Jelly Bean, the procedure is bit different here, so I write up this guide on how to easily extract the FTF files and see the contents of the file for Jelly Bean Version.

Files and Tools required for extracting.

1)     FTF File of your Xperia Device ( You can download from XDA Developers Forum)
2)     7zip extract Software (Google it to download) – Install on your PC
3)     Flash Tool, you can Download it from here - Install on your PC
4)     EXT2read or ext4_unpacker Tool to extract the .ext4 files (Click Here to Download)

  • First place the FTF (device firmware file) in a folder and extract the file using the 7zip software.
  • Open the extracted folder and check if you have the system.sin file, check the size of the file, it should be a big file (but not 0kb file)
  • Open the Flash tool, Click on Tools----> Sin Editor
  • Browse the system.sin file from the extracted FTF folder
  • Click on Extract Data
  • Allow the Flash Tool to extract the data, it will take 3-4 Mins to extract the sin file, wait for the flash file to display the following line.
  •
  •
Extraction finished to C: \Downloads\Xperia\system.ext4 line, sample looks like below.

30/042/2013 14:42:18 - INFO  - <- initialized="" is="" level="" span="" successfully="" this="">
30/042/2013 14:42:18 - INFO  - Flashtool Version 0.9.12.1 built on 2013-06-04 22:50:00
30/042/2013 14:42:26 - INFO  - Device disconnected
30/047/2013 14:47:44 - INFO  - Starting data extraction
30/047/2013 14:47:47 - INFO  - Generating empty container file
30/047/2013 14:47:47 - INFO  - File size : 1200 Mb
30/048/2013 14:48:22 - INFO  - Container generated. Now extracting data to container
30/050/2013 14:50:55 - INFO  - Extraction finished to C: \Downloads\Xperia\system.ext4

You should now see the system.ext4 file created in the FTF folder.

Now open ext2read tool and click folder icon, select system.ext4 file, select open and select the folder like (C:/) in the 1st White window and click floppy icon, now ext2read will save the system folder on C:

You should now be able to see the contents of the FTF file, the default location for wallpapers and ringtones of FTF file are as follows

root/etc/customization/content/com/sonyericsson/wallpaperpicker/wallpapers
root/media/

Get Mobile Battery Recharged With Damaged Charging Port

Never Worry if your phone USB/Connector port is damaged or if your phone doesn’t charged your battery. It’s quite common on today’s smart phones to have a broken, bent or damaged charging port / built in USB port.

The Micro USB/Charging port sometimes is integrated with the mother board of the mobile or it will be a replaceable part, but it completely depends on the make and model. When the charging port gets damaged if it is integrated with the mother board , you can’t do much about it. You would be lucky enough if your warranty is void, you have to shell 100+$ to get the motherboard replace just for a charging port, which I feel is worthless when you have the below option.

The one way to keep your mobile phone battery recharging is to get a universal battery charger which is easily available through the top online stores (ebay Amazon), Google it for Universal Mobile Battery Charger. The Price of this would  be between $2 to $10.

One example of integrated charging port is Sony Tipo, the port is integrated with mother board and you can just not replace the port itself, you need to change your board.

FiX Xperia X10 Camera Unknown Error and Camera Not Available

Here is the Quick Fix for Xperia X10 Camera Unknown Error and Camera Not Available Error messages when trying to access the Camera Application On Android Version 2.3.3, Xperia X10i.

The first thing that we need to do is to Narrow down the Issue, we need to make ourselves clear whether it is a camera issue or App glitch that is causing the camera to throw the errors. In order to do so, the following steps need to be followed.

Having your S.D Memory card inserted into the Xperia x10, Go To Main Menu and Click on Settings, Open Storage, Tap "Unmount SD Card", by this the SD card should be unmounted. Now Access the camera application, if you are able to access the Camera and view the photography with out the error messages "Unknown Error and Camera Not Available Error", it clearly states your camera(hardware) is functioning fine.

Now the real thing that we need to do, I recommend doing the Factory Reset of the Phone before actually getting into the resolution, Following are the steps to Do So.

Menu > Settings > Privacy > Factory Data Reset ( Note: this will remove all data from the handset but will not touch a memory stick or SIM card)

Resolution:
  • Got to Phone Main Menu
  • Click On Camera Icon
  • As You tap the Camera Icon, It take 2 or 1 Second to Load the Camera Screen
  • As soon as you Enter the Camera Screen, Tap the Available Photos/Videos that were previously shot or available
  • Accessing of the earlier Files, should be immediate, as you enter the Camera Screen
  • Your Camera Should Work Fine Without the Unknown Error and Camera Not Available Error Messages
  • Check the Attached Screenshots For your Reference on Xperia x10 Camera Errors and Problems

If you are still getting Unknown Error and Camera Not Available, you can format the SD card by connecting your Phone as Mass Storage Device, this will definitely work..I bet on it!

Though this seems to be Software Glitch, this should be probably fixed in the coming versions, keep your eyes on Sony Ericsson Software Update Service.

I Encountered this problem after updating My Xperia To Android 2.3.3, Post your successful experiences through the below Comments section

Sony Ericsson And Sony Service Centers Getting Worse

This is out of my recent experience with Sony Ericsson Service center. I truly accept that Sony Ericsson mobiles got a unique design and technology, but when it comes to offering service to their customers its one of the worst i had ever experienced in the recent times.

I feel that Sony is more concentrating on increasing the sales but not to the customer satisfaction, the reason i feel the drop in the Sony Ericsson mobiles sales last quarter was just because of their stupid and Don't care support strategies.

The fact is that Sony and Co is deploying the local non certified technicians for servicing their products, it might be mobiles or consumer products. I feel it is true in my case and i see million complaints online. I doubt Sony Ericsson mobiles are programmed internally to work only for the warranty period.

When i walked into one of the service centers to get my phone repaired, they said that the phone is dead and cannot be repaired(shocked), I don't understand why these stupid people manufacture the phones if they do not know how to get the phone repaired and make customer satisfy.

Moreover, I was shocked by the words from other Sony Ericsson service center agent, Here he go, I am sorry, your phone was mishandled by a poor previous technician who doesn't know how to assemble and disassemble the Phone and i see that almost all the original factory parts have been replaced with the non functioning parts.

Now I turn my mind not to buy the Sony Ericsson mobile again and will not recommend to any one just because of the way they are dealing with customers and unsatisfactory worst customer service and hopeless customer satisfaction. So readers, go for a thorough review of Sony Ericsson mobile if you still wish to buy this Stupid Sony Mobiles, there are thousand alternatives which are far betters than this.

I finally feel Sony Ericsson Mobiles will just work for warranty period and they suck!! Share your worst experience through below comments Section.
