How to Resolve IIS HRESULT:0x80070020 Error

This is the most common error observed when you try to start the Default Website in IIS (internet Information services), the reason for the error is the port binding in IIS Default Website "Site Bindings" Window.

---------------------------
Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
---------------------------
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070020)
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Recollect if you have modified any of the ports in the IIS or installed any new application recently that might be using the same port as the IIS is using.

IIS usually uses port 80 for http and 443 for https.Just follow the below steps to resolve the port binding issue.

  • Open the IIS (Click Rin type "inetmgr.exe" and hit enter)
  • Click on Default Website
  • On the Right Side, click on "Bindings" Link
  • This would bring up the Site Bindings Window.
  • Observe and edit the default or altered port to some unused ports on your PC

Hopefully, this should resolve the issue, discuss more about this topic using the below comments section.
